March. 11 seen through the eyes of comic artists from all over the world : Magnitude Zero
The earthquake of 11 March 2011, and the nuclear accident it caused, was a huge shock not just nationally but also overseas.
At Kyoto International Manga Museum, we are holding an exhibition showing illustrations from around the world drawn for charity right after the disaster, and illustrations that were drawn later to help support efforts.
We are also welcoming Shiriagari Kotobuki, a manga artist who has made many efforts to talk about the current situation through his work, and the founder of this project, French bande dessinée writer Jean-David Morvan, and they will talk about what manga can do for society.

From Magnitude 9 to Magnitude Zero
After the disaster, following French bande dessinée writer Jean-David Morvan suggestion, comic artists from all over the world started a collection of illustrations for charity.
The "Tsunami" project started, and several thousands of illustrations were collected. 250 were selected and CFSL published them in the highly acclaimed collection Magnitude 9.
Now that the Japanese translation of Magnitude 9 is out, created by Mind Creators and published by Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc. The title of the Japanese edition is Magnitude Zero. Published one year after the earthquake, it expresses the desire to get back up again. In the Japanese version there are about sixty new illustrations created for it, and about sixtythat were selected from Magnitude 9, a total of about 120 works in total.
During this exhibition, we are introducing all works included in Magnitude Zero.

- 200 yen of the proceeds of every volume will go to charity supporting the victims of the earthquake.

What manga can do for this world
We welcome manga artist Shiriagari Kotobuki, who has talked about the earthquake in, amongs others, his work Ano hi kara no manga (Manga from that day on), and the founder of the Magnitude 9 project, and popular French bande dessinée writer Jean-David Morvan, and they will talk about what manga can do for society, hoping to give the audience food for talk (there will be on site interpretation -- French to Japanese)
