Hagio Moto Exhibition

~Silver Ship & Blue Sea~

In celebrating the publication of "Gin no Fune to Aoi Umi (Silver Ship and the Blue Sea)," The Kyoto International Manga Museum will host the exhibition of selected original drawings by manga artist Hagio Moto, who have given readers vivid impressions through releases of pieces such as "Poe no Ichizoku (Poe's Family)" and "Toma no Shinzo (Heart of Thomas)," expanding the limits and realms of girls' comic known as Shojo Manga.

While this is a re-installment of a section of an exhibition held at Tokyo's Span Art Gallery, we will have additional pieces curated especially for our museum. Please indulge in the fine world of beautifully illustrated pieces, all drawn by hand.

10am - 6pm (Admission to the museum is until 5:30pm)

Exhibiting 26 original drawings by Hagio Moto, selected from her published works

Approximately 26 original drawings will be displayed, mostly selected from illustrations in "Gin no Fune to Aoi Umi (Silver Ship and the Blue Sea)," her collection of fairy tales. Additional pieces curated especially for this exhibition are a total of 8 drawings selected from a scene in "Toma no Shinzo (Heart of Thomas)."

About Hagio Moto

Hagio Moto was born in the prefecture of Fukuoka in the year 1949. Her piece "Poe no Ichizoku (Poe's Family)" that began its run in 1972 is still considered a masterpiece today, shifting the course of Shojo Manga history. She has since continued to express a unique world unlike any other, receiving overwhelming acclaim from all areas and fields. She has many awards under her belt, including the 21st Shogakukan Manga Awards (1976) with "Poe no Ichizoku (Poe's Family)" and "Juichinin Iru! (They Were Eleven)," the 1st Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Award for Excellence (1997) for "Zankokuna Kami ga Shihai Suru (A Cruel God Reigns)," the 27th Nihon SF Taisho Award (2006) for "Barbara Ikai," the Imperial Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon (2012), among many more.
