From shojo manga magazines to fashion magazines and youth magazines, Moyoco Anno's work has appeared in a variety of media. The clothing she draws when creating her characters and stories follow real fashion trends and at the same time depict a glamour that her readers dream of.
Among Anno's work, her magical girl series Sugar Sugar Rune has a quintessentially manga dreamlike fashion and yet the clothes have a loveliness to them that results in a demand for them as real clothes as well.
Two fashion houses have been selected and five individuals have been chosen by competition to create physical realizations of outfits from the pages of Anno's work, as well as use it for inspiration to create original items of clothing.
Please enjoy Sugar Sugar Rune's fanciful magic and love-packed fairy-tale world.
Sugar Sugar Rune × Pagong
Pagong is a local Kyoto brand that makes and sells contemporary clothing based on kimono patterns. They have made 12 items for this project from house-wear to going-out clothes, all crafted from traditional Kyoto yuzen fabric. The cute, European-style world of Sugar Sugar Rune's encounter with Pagong will be an experiment in chic style that is distinctively Kyoto.
Sugar Sugar Rune × Romance
Romance is a select shop tucked away in Kyoto's Teramachi shopping arcades that deals in high class brands, original clothing and accessories. An exquisite combination of elegance and popular trends, Romance will interpret Sugar Sugar Rune's world-view in their own way, and have created 17 items for the project. With their keyword otome (young lady), the world Romance creates will surely be remarkable.
