by Morohoshi Daijiro
The Kyoto International Manga Museum proudly presents an exhibition of original drawings by Morohoshi Daijiro, a manga artist who continues to earn devout fans with his pieces that project unique worldviews unlike any other. The exhibition will feature approximately 40 hand-drawn originals from his most notable Mud Men series.
Also on display are panels of photography taken by photographer Sato Kenji--known for his photo book series Kikai Isan--under the theme Mud Men.

We will have about 40 pieces on display, such as colored illustrations and original drawing pieces from Morohoshi's new episode of Mud Men--considered to be his masterpiece--published by Kawade Shobo Shinsha in Morohoshi Daijiro: The World of Mud Men, original sketches from his visit to Papua New Guinea--where the story of Mud Men takes place--planned for the above mentioned book, and original Mud Men drawings from 30 to 40 years ago. Also on display are 3 panel pieces of photography by Sato Kenji, a photographer who accompanied Morohoshi to Papua New Guinea.

Morohoshi Daijiro Biography
Morohoshi Daijiro was born in Nagano prefecture in the year 1949. He debuted as a manga artist when his submitted piece was published in the magazine COM in 1970. In 1974, he attracted attention by receiving two best-new-artist-awards from youth-oriented magazines Big Comic and Weekly Shonen Jump. He then continued to rapidly release many unique pieces--such as the Mud Men series, Ankoku Shinwa, the Yokai Hunter series, the Shiori to Shimiko series--that often took references from ancient history and folklore, and giving readers a peculiar aftertaste. He received Grand Prize of the 4th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in the year 2000 for Saiyu Yoenden (The Monkey King and other Chinese Legends), and was chosen as recipient of the Award from the Ministry of Education in the Art Encouragement Prizes in 2014.
Sato Kenji Biography
Sato Kenji is a photographer known for his Kikai Isan photo book series, a collection of bizarre yet fascinating structures and landscapes from all around the world. He captures intense ambiance synched with that of Mud Men while in Papua New Guinea that he visited with Morohoshi.
