What is the SKETCHTRAVEL Project ?
Between 2006 and 2011, over a period of four and a half years, 1 sketchbook travelled around the world. It was a project that started with an idea Mr. Daisuke Tsutsumi, who was working as an art director on Toy Story 3 (Pixar)、and Mr. Gerald Guerlais, a French animator, had. The rules were that every artists would draw one page, and then give the book to another artists, and eventually it travelled through twelve countries and the hands of seventy-one artists.
Created through the friendship and playfullness that connects the artists, it was picked up by the media as a fantastic collaboration that crossed national boundaries. The finished sketchbook was auctioned in support of the NGO "Room to Read", which supports literacy, and the proceeds were used to build libraries in five countries, including Cambodia.
