Katsuya Terada TEN
- 10 Year Retrospective -
The Kyoto International Manga Museum is honored to hold an exhibition of artwork by the manga artist and illustrator Katsuya Terada, featuring 300 color illustrations and background designs, including original artwork.
In the past ten years Terada has produced a vast and varied body of work which will be showcased in this exhibition, including manga, illustrations, as well as game and character design artwork. The exhibition is supplemented by a corner showing the creative originality of Terada's work with video footage of his work process.
This exhibition has been supervised by writer, editor, and game designer Gabin Ito as editor and exhibition director; and therefore can be enjoyed as an interwoven space celebrating them both.
Terada himself will make appearances at the museum during the exhibition period for related events such as live drawing. Experience the atmosphere of his creativity on-site.

Colour illustrations and design graphics from the vast body of Terada's work in illustrations; games, anime, and book cover artwork. A total of 300 works will be exhibited, including original artwork.

Event 3: Artist Talk and Live Drawing Event (Analog Edition)
A live drawing performance
A live drawing performance by Terada in the exhibition gallery, in which he will draw directly onto a 900×1800mm panel with felt-tip pen without the use of rough sketching.

Event 4: Artist Talk and Live Drawing Event
Talking×Drawing - Travel Talks
Katsuya Terada and rakugo performer Hikoichi Hayashiya tell us tales of their travels together on the Silk Road in China and through Venezuela in South America while showing photos taken throughout their travels, interspersed with live drawing by Terada. We will also hear stories about Terada's work on Juugoya monogatari (Hayakawa Shobo. Story by Baku Yumemakura) during his travels in Venezuela.

Katsuya Terada
A manga artist and illustrator, born in Okayama prefecture in 1963, Terada works in a wide variety of fields including manga, novel illustrations, as well as game and anime character designs etc. Early on, he began to create artwork on computer with a pen tablet and is now a leading industry digital artist. He has an original
style, with linework and shading showing combined influences from traditional Japanese painting, as well as European artists such a Moebius and Enki Bilal, which has garnered a great many fans both within Japan and abroad. He has produced a great many well known works such as the manga
Saiyukiden Daienou (Monkey King) and Rakuda Ga Warau, character designs for the Virtua Fighter series and Busin, mecha design for Yatterman, creature design for Kamen Rider W, and many more.
His recent work includes Gasoline Living serialised in the evening paper (Asahi Shimbun. Story by Kotaro Isaka), illustrations for Saiyukiden Daienou (Monkey King) vol.2 (Shueisha) and Juugoya monogatari (Hayakawa Shobo. Story by Baku Yumemakura), as well as recent art exhibitions "Future Life Diagrams" at the Takashimaya Shinjuku Art Gallery and "Cat and Dragon" at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum.
Gabin Ito
An editor, creator and the supervising director of this exhibition, born in 1963, Gabin Ito has a hand in all kinds of contents production fields such as book writing and editing, game development, and art exhibition production. He established the company Boctok through his work editing the ASCII computer hobby magazine Login and has collaborated with Katsuya Terada on collections such as Zenbu - The Complete Works of Katsuya Terada (Kodansha), and Katsuya Terada Painter bon! (Laputa).
