Eshi 100 Part 3
Contemporary Japanese Illustration in Kyoto
Since the ukiyo-e artists of the Edo period, illustrators active in fields as varied as manga, anime and games, and illustrations for novellas have been called "Eshi". The style they have created is part of Japanese popular culture, and is drawing attention around the world.
Here at the Kyoto International Manga Museum, for our special exhibition, we have gathered illustrations by 105 artists who worked with the theme "Sights of Japan", and are exhibiting them in the exhibition "Eshi 100 Part 3 - Contemporary Japanese Illustration in Kyoto". It is a powered-up version of the exhibition "Eshi 100 Part 3" held in May of 2013 in Akihabara, Tokyo.

Sale of catalogue and merchandize
During the exhibition we are selling an original catalogue of the art in the exhibition (2,500 yen), and merchandize exclusively for the exhibition in Kyoto, like postcards, clear files, and more. You can find it all in the Museum shop, please have a look!

Let's make a graphig!

We are holding a workshop where you can experience an aspect of character creation, through the cooperation of Cospa Corporation, who develop and sell character goods from manga and anime, and have collaborated on many popular characters to realize the paper toy "Graphig". You will not need any glue or scissors for this easy paper toy workshop, and can color the white graphig template to create your own original graphig. We are also holding an exhibition where you can enjoy the history of the many collaborated graphig items so far. Related products will be sold in the Museum Shop, make sure not to miss it.

What is a "Graphig" ?
Graphig is a brand by Cospa. It combines graphic design with a figurine, and becomes a somewhat stylish yet caricaturized character. Graphig designer Nasos from the design group NC Teikoku is in charge of the concept design. They have a broad line of products, including the paper figures in this workshop, such as plastic figurines, key rings, and stuffed animals.

We have a new special project in our popular portrait corner *million smile* !
Last year, when we held our first "Eshi 100 - Contemporary Japanese illustration in Kyoto" Exhibition, we drew "moe" portraits here, therefore "Portrait Moe" !
Held at the same time as this years "Eshi 100 - Contemporary Japanese illustration in Kyoto part II" Exhibition, this project is back, new and improved, and you can have a portrait drawn in which you will look like a character of a manga or anime !
You can choose from four ways to transform: 1. Kimono, 2. Ninja, 3. High school student, and 4. Cat ears. Make sure to have your very own "Portrait Moe" drawn !
