P Event CREATE Portrait Corner 土・日・祝 21/7/1 11:00 〜 21/7/1 17:00 This is an area the museum where you can have your portrait made, which we call the "Portrait Corner." Here, you can meet one of our artists and talk to them while they draw you. In the portrait corner you can select between the artists' original touch and anime style. It's a great way to commemorate your trip to the museum. Men, women, children, granddad, and grandma alike, can all have wonderful portraits drawn!
P Exhibition SEE What is Manga? “What is Manga?” exhibition at the main gallery on the second floor seeks to answer questions that visitors may have from multiple perspectives. It explains manga's history and social significance in each categories. In addition, the walls of which are covered in bookshelves that are filled mainly with popular and influential manga from 1945 to 2005, arranged by year (based on Gendai Manga Hakubutsukan, 2006, Shogakukan).
P Exhibition SEE Commemorative plaster casts “Manga Artists’ Hands” There are plaster casts of over 100 artists’ hands who visited Manga Museum for events etc. Look and imagine how the masterpieces were created with those hands! You can meet those treasures only here at the Manga Museum on the 2nd floor, galley 6.
P Event SEE MM Kamishibai 土・日・祝 21/3/30 12:00, 21/3/30 13:30, 21/3/30 15:00 Here at the Manga Museum, we have regular performances of "Kamishibai," a traditional Japanese style of story-telling with pictures, which used to be popular as street entertainment. Everyone from children to the elderly can enjoy performances by the Museum's Kamishibai group, known as Yassan Ichiza.
P Exhibition SEE Object Hi no Tori (Phoenix) Tezuka Osamu is a manga artist who made a significant contribution to the development of Japanese manga.This object is one of his representative characters, HINOTORI(Phoenix). It was suspended in our atrium in September 2009, and created by one of Kyoto's best artisans, Sudo Mitsuaki, who creates Buddhist statues with traditional engraving techniques calledyosegizukuri (mosaic wood construction) and gyokugan (spherical eye). It is a large wooden object that measures 4.5 metres (height) by 11 metres (width). This object is created as part of the "Utilization project for products made in Kyoto".
P Exhibition SEE Exhibition of 100 Maiko Illustrations The walls of the Manga Museum are lined with drawings of maiko by over 100 manga artists. Look for the maiko drawn by your favorite manga artist! This exhibit was made possible by The Japan Cartoonists Association.
P Exhibition SEE Manga Studio 土・日・祝 21/10/8 11:00 〜 21/10/8 17:00 At the Manga Museum, you can see the process of manga creation first-hand in our "Manga Studio." Watch professional manga artists as they draw manga, starting from the initial pencil sketch.It's a rare chance to see how manga is really made, from black-and-white images to full color. Please stop by the Manga Studio the next time you come to the Museum!
