In memory of Tsuchiyama Shigeru

On May 24, the Japanese manga artist Tsuchiyama Shigeru passed away. He is famous for his works of food manga, such as “Kuishimbo” and “Gokudo Meshi”.
Mr. Tsuchiyama visited the manga museum in 2012, as a special guest to a charity event for the Great East Japan Earthquake with other manga artists (Big Joe and Kurata Yoshimi). Also, for the “Cooking Papa exhibition” in 2017-2018, he wrote an encouraging text with the same two people.
Our heart-felt condolences go to him; may his soul rest in peace.

Tsuchiyama Shigeru
Born in Ishikawa prefecture, in 1950. He made his debut with “Dallas no atsui hi” in Monthly Shonen Champion (Akita Publishing) after working as an assistant of Mochizuki Mikiya (“Wild 7” etc). Afterward, he moved his field to Gekiga magazines for adults and became popular by “Gokudo Steak” (story by Kudo Kazuya).
After “Kenka Ramen” that was published in Weekly Manga Goraku (Nihonbungeisha) in 1995, he continued to work on great works such as “Shoku-King” and “Gokudo Meshi.” In 2007, he won the Excellence award at the 36th Japan Cartoonists Association event for “Kuishimbo”.
